It is no secret that at Watagan Park we love the outside, exploring every turn on the track, climbing that little bit higher to see the perfect view or just sitting up against a tree being thankful for the shade it is providing.

When we do go exploring, one thing we always take with us is a cool hiking stick. We found these colourful sticks on a blog post recently and thought they’d make great hiking sticks! Follow the instructions below to make one of your own. They are super easy and fun to make.

What you will need:

  • A long stick about ¾ of your height. Search the ground as you’ll be able to find one that has fallen from a tree.
  • Sandpaper (you might have to ask mum or dad for some).
  • Any things that you want to put on your hiking stick to decorate it and make it your own. For example some ribbon, glitter or paint.

Method:

  • Prune your stick by breaking off any smaller branches or leaves.
  • Rub the sandpaper up and down the stick to remove any hard or sharp edges.
  • Paint and decorate your stick as you wish. The secret is to be as creative as you can.
