What better way to get outside and brighten your backyard with this temporary art project we found on Parents – Family fun that highlights (but doesn’t harm) a favourite tree.

What you will need

  • Coloured chalk
  • Large paintbrush
  • Container filled with water

Method

  1. First soak sidewalk chalk in water for a couple of hours to soften it.
  2. Go outside and choose a tree that’s looking a little drab.(the smoother the bark, the better)
  3. Rub the chalk on the trunk to give it a coat of colour.
  4. Smooth out the chalk and blend the hues with a large paintbrush and water.

Now you have created a colourful backdrop for your next backyard party or just to have a bit of fun.
