The Watagan Mountains is a beautiful place to explore by foot, bushwalking to a stunning lookout or that secluded picnic spot. It is also the perfect location to get a little mud on the tyres, throw a couple of sleeping bags in the back and head out for a 4WD adventure.

It goes without saying that you need some experience and guidance before you embark on a little 4WD adventure. If you need to dust up on some skills or practise, there is a spacious clearing at Freeman’s Waterhole with perfect terrain to get your 4WD skills warmed up.

If you need encouragement of the liquid kind then why not try the 4WD day trip to Wolombi Pub and Lavender café.

On Slippery Rock Rd there is a great 4WD experience awaiting you. Drive South, and if you want to do the whole track, don’t get off until the right hand turn onto Owen’s Rd.

On Green’s Break Rd is one of the many 4WD trails in the Watagan Mountains, this will take you past the famous Wishing Well Picnic Area, and will ultimately take you back to the road you started on, though a bit further along.

There are so many opportunities to explore the Watagan Mountains by 4WD. You can follow the main road for as long as you like, or chase down any 4WD trail that catches your fancy. Exercise reasonable caution.

For GPS locations for each of the 4WD experiences and to explore more activities in the area, download the free Nature’s Playground App for iPhone and Android. Simply click here if you like to know more info about the Nature’s Playgroup App.
