Geography teacher at Arndell Anglican College, Matthew Oakes, was recently recognised for his excellence in teaching by the Teachers’ Guild of NSW.

Given to teachers in their early years of teaching, Mr Oakes was presented with a certificate of excellence for being an outstanding teacher, in recognition of his teaching practice skills, student engagement, extracurricular involvement and future plans for professional growth.

“Mr Oakes has made a significant contribution to the wider school community,” says James Milford, Director of Teaching and Learning. “He is involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, coached the champion Junior Girls’ Futsal Team and is also proactive in the college’s K-12 Pedagogy Committee.”

Mr Oakes says: “I feel honoured to be recognised by Arndell, and the Teachers’ Guild, which has a long history of promoting quality teaching in NSW.

“My purpose as a teacher is to help young people deepen their understanding of the world around them.”
