Naturopath Lorna Cousins runs Tranquil Waters Natural Therapies in Pitt Town. We caught up with her to find out why she loves what she does, and what she loves about Vermont.

Tell us about your business
I’ve been running Tranquil Waters Natural Therapies for three years, offering naturopathy, remedial or relaxing massage, hot stone fusion massage and tranquility facials. My aim is to help people be healthy, happy and calm. I also offer iridology, nutritional advice, and herbal and supplemental medicine. I’ll always tailor my services to your individual needs. When you walk in the door it’s all about you!

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love having the opportunity to care for people, and the different interactions I have every day – each person comes in with a new story.

What is your most popular service?
My most popular service is the 90-minute hot stone fusion massage. It’s extremely relaxing and very therapeutic. I use the hot stones as an extension of my hands, and the heat from the rocks allows for a deeper massage that melts away knots and tension.

Was this your dream job growing up?
When I was very young I always wanted to be a beauty therapist. While I was working in beauty in David Jones I found myself answering a lot of health questions, and I started wondering how else I could help people. So I took up study in remedial massage and naturopathy. After years of doing that while working full time and raising a family, it’s wonderful to be able to put it all together now in my own business!

When did you move to Vermont and what’s the best thing about living here?
We moved to Vermont three years ago after falling in love with the area on our first visit to Pitt Town. We built the house around the business. I was so excited to be able to offer a naturopathic clinic for the families in the community.

When you’re not working, what’s your favourite way to unwind and relax in and around Vermont?
When I’m not working you’ll often see me hidden under my hat walking all over Vermont with my fat beagle Millie. Otherwise I’ll be pottering in the garden or being a naughty naturopath and enjoying a glass of wine with family or friends!
