The Hawkesbury is still one of Sydney’s major food bowls, and winter is a great time to take a weekend drive to taste some of the best produce and gourmet goods this region has to offer.

In our earlier posts about Gourmet grazing we discovered fruit picking at Schofields Orchard and wine tasting at Tizzana Winery. In our final gourmet grazing post, we discover that apples have many uses!

Head to the clear mountain air of Bilpin, along the Bells Line of Road, and you might stumble across Wirraninna Ridge. That’s where they make apple cider vinegar using traditional methods, without any additives. The sensationally mellow vinegar they create is ideal for salad dressings, pickles and marinades.

This vinegar also comes with added health benefits – owner Claudia Kindler suggests trying it mixed with warm water and honey as a morning drink, for help with arthritis, skin issues and good bowel health.

Wirraninna Ridge uses ripe, fresh apples from its own orchard and other local growers. They also make a mint and apple cider vinegar sauce that’s great for lamb roasts and a 100 per cent natural apple cider vinegar and honey tonic that could help with sleep, respiratory and sinus infections, muscle cramps and energy loss.

Sounds like the perfect recipe for a healthier winter…  Phone 4567 1240 to find out more.
