The centre will offer full-time and part-time care and early childhood education for children aged from six weeks upwards, as well as out of school hours care for primary school children.

“Children do some of their most important learning in the first five years of life,” says Elizabeth Sheridan, Centre Director at Pitt Town Early Learning Centre. “Early experiences provide the base for the brain’s development and functioning throughout life, and have a direct impact on how children develop learning skills, as well as social and emotional ones. Children learn how to take turns, respect others’ feelings and take direction from an adult other than a parent.”

The centre will open with five rooms for the different age groups, and three playgrounds designed to fit in with the natural environment and stimulate curiosity and development. Key staff come from Oakville Preschool Learning Centre, which has 15 years’ recognition as an industry leader.

Children in the early years program will be kept busy with arts and crafts, music and movement, peer support programs, and outdoor activities.

“Our prep program, which is run currently at Oakville, is very successful in preparing children for transition to school. It gives them the confidence and social skills to thrive,” Elizabeth says.

The focus of the after-school and vacation care will be on providing a fun, supportive club that children actually want to come to. Sport and group games are on the agenda, along with homework help.

The centre is truly family-focused. “We will offer parenting courses and support groups,” says Elizabeth. “And specialist speech and occupational therapy services will be available. We aim to support the whole family, not just the children enrolled in our service.”

Pitt Town Early Learning Centre is due to open on 19 January, with out of school hours care starting at the beginning of Term 1. But before then you can visit the centre on their Open Day on Saturday the 6th December from 11am-2pm. 2 Quarry Street Pitt Town. All welcome.
