When Jason Tobin and his family decided they’d outgrown their Rouse Hill home, they were one of the first purchasers of a 2,000m² block at Riverland.

“We love waterskiing and we have a boat, so being close to the river was a big attraction,” says Jason. “We also have a caravan, so it’s good to have the space to store it at our house. But the one thing we really missed when we lived in Rouse Hill was having friends around, even though once we all started having kids it became impossible with them all under foot.”

Now they have a 2,000m² block to spread out on, with a pool and al fresco entertaining area. “Now the kids can do their own thing – and the adults can actually have a complete conversation!”

The Tobins moved into their Riverland home in March 2013. “It was still an orchard when we bought the land – there were no roads or gutters. So we waited a while to build,” says Jason. “But once we started, it only took about six months.”

He says they designed the home to suit the shape of the land, with all the living areas opening out onto the back garden and pool. The landscaping is still an ongoing project, given they have so much land to work with.

“I have plans to put in a veggie garden, maybe some citrus trees, as well as a shed down the back.”

Jason works in Rouse Hill, so he enjoys a “very pleasant” 15-minute commute each day. The children have adjusted well to their new school, Arndell Anglican College, and have made many new friends in the neighbourhood.

“We’re absolutely rapt with the school and it’s only five or 10 minutes down the road. Now they’re a bit older, they want to catch the school bus, and it drops them off just around the corner.”

“It was a great move – we’re 100 per cent happy with it.”
