Lakes Mail: Keith Johnson never doubted his Trinity Point vision would happen
By David Stewart

The man behind the $380-million Trinity Point development said he never once doubted the project would come to fruition.

Johnson Property Group chief executive officer Keith Johnson told the Lakes Mail that despite the delays and challenges faced by the project over more than a decade, he never wavered in the belief that his vision for the site would be realised.

“No. Never,” Mr Johnson said.

“We were always following what council wanted. Originally, in 2004, this was in the LEP (Local Environmental Plan) as a tourist site.

“We always said we’re not going to give them a Clayton’s tourist site, we’re going to give them quality.”

Mr Johnson was speaking on Monday at a media conference to mark the start of works on the 188-berth marina part of the project.

The Trinity Point development will become one of the state’s largest regional luxury mixed-use projects, spanning 23 hectares of prime waterfront land overlooking Bardens Bay at Morisset Park.

Once it is completed, Trinity Point would also feature:

  • 189 residential land lots and medium-density housing;
  • 250 apartments comprising a mix of residential and short-stay units;
  • a five-star Pullman hotel;
  • 200-seat restaurant with outdoor dining;
  • 300-seat function room;
  • 60- to 80-seat cafe;
  • five-star resort facilities including a day spa, pool, and gymnasium; and retail outlets.

Mr Johnson said the start of work was a milestone for all of Lake Macquarie.

“This is the start of much activity for this $380-million project. It’s an exciting time, and it’s finally happened,” he said.

“About 3500 new jobs will be created, and that’s significant for the local area.

“We have operators for every part of the business lining up and waiting, including some high quality restaurateurs. It will be a fine quality project.”

Mr Johnson wants the entire project completed by Christmas next year.

“We want Trinity Point to be up and running so we can celebrate New Year’s Eve here in 2017,” he said.
